The Netherlands hosts a wide variety of knowledge institutes working on Russia and Eastern Europe related topics. This page provides a non-exhaustive overview of relevant organisations that have agreed to become part of the REKA network.

The Clingendael Institute

Clingendael is an independent think tank and a diplomatic academy, based in The Hague - City of Peace and Justice. As part of Clingendael, the Russia & Eastern Europe Centre aims to increase knowledge of this vast and complex region through analysis, strategic policy advice and events.

Platform Raam

RAAM aims to deepen knowledge in the Netherlands about political, social and cultural developments in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus, as they are of essential (geo)political significance for the European democratic legal order.

Groninger Instituut voor Midden- en Oost-Europese Studies (GIMOES)

Bij het Groninger Instituut voor Midden- en Oost-Europese Studies (GIMOES) staan wij voor het ontwikkelen en delen van kennis. Door middel van onze activiteiten proberen wij een zo breed mogelijk publiek bekend te maken met de interessante verhalen over, en uit, het Midden- en Oosten van Europa. Dit doen wij op zowel cultureel als zakelijk niveau.


 

Eureast Platform Ghent University

The Eureast Platform engages in academic collaboration with and study of the countries of Eastern Europe and Eurasia, more specifically Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.

DutchCulture

DutchCulture is the network and knowledge organization for international cultural cooperation. DutchCulture supports the Dutch cultural and creative sector, public authorities and diplomatic posts in the pursuit of their international ambitions.

Centre for European Security Studies

The Centre for European Security Studies (CESS) is an independent institute for research and training, based in Groningen, The Netherlands. As part of CESS, Europe-Central Asia Monitoring (EUCAM) is presented as the knowledge hub on broader Europe-Central Asia relations.

Wageningen University and Research

Wageningen University and Research (WUR) cooperates with partners in Russia and Eastern Europe in the field of sustainable food systems, living environment and healthy well-being. Its mission is 'to explore the potential of nature 'to improve the quality of life'. 

The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies

The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies (HCSS) conducts research and provides advice on geopolitical and defence & security issues to governments, international institutions and businesses. Research is characterized by a datadriven, multidisciplinary approach, specialist knowledge and a strategic orientation.

Nederlands Instituut in Sint-Petersburg

The Netherlands Institute in Saint Petersburg (NIP) is an academic centre that increases expertise in the field of Russian studies and offers services to researchers and students of the participating universities. The NIP is part of the University of Amsterdam and is partnered with the University of Groningen, Leiden University, Utrecht University, the Free University and the Radboud University of Nijmegen.

The Dutch-Russian Law Association

The Dutch-Russian Law Association (DRLA) aims to promote a fair administration of justice, the rule of law and the observance of fundamental rights in the Netherlands and Russia.

LINKS Europe

LINKS Europe is a foundation based in The Hague promoting the peaceful resolution of conflicts and a secure and prosperous Europe in friendship and solidarity with its neighbourhood. Amongst its activities, LINKS Europe manages commonspace.eu an independent information and analysis website, providing original content on a range of topics affecting Europe and its neighbourhood.

University of Amsterdam

At the University of Amsterdam, the students and staff of Eastern European Studies focus on the political, social and cultural history of Russia, Ukraine and Central and Southeast Europe in the twentieth and twenty-first century. The students and scholars of the Russian and Slavic Studies department explore Russian, Polish, Czech, and Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian language, culture, literature, and media. 

The Central and East European Studies Centre

The Central and Eastern European Studies Centre is an interdisciplinary platform of scholars of Leiden University. The Centre’s mission is to bundle together, strengthen and disseminate existing research into the history, politics, and culture of the region, spanning the new member states of the EU, but also Ukraine, Moldova, the Western Balkans and Russia.

Radboud Centre for Philosophy and Society

The major questions society currently grapples with demand a new philosophy; a more constructive, involved and approachable one. The Radboud Center for Philosophy and Society (RCPS) contributes to these developments within philosophy and its researchers place themselves at the crossroads between philosophy and society in their quest to obtain fresh, significant insights. At RCPS, prof. Evert van der Zweerde focuses on Russia and the former Soviet Union.

Netherlands Helsinki Committee

The Netherlands Helsinki Committee is a non-governmental organisation that promotes human rights and strengthens the rule of law and democracy in all countries of Europe, including the Central Asian countries participating in the OSCE.

PAX

PAX is the Netherlands' largest peace organisation, working to protect civilians from war violence, end armed violence, and build inclusive peace.

The Hague Research Institute

The Hague Research Institute is an independent non-profit think-tank. Our goal is to provide both local and international audiences with clear policy analysis, opinion articles, and research about Europe’s connections with the South Caucasus and Central Asia. We focus on political, economic, security, and energy relationships.
