Op 7 november wijdt het Gronings Instituut voor Midden en Oost-Europa (GIMOES) een conferentie aan de geschiedenis van de betrekkingen tussen Oekraïne, Nederland en België.

Since Lithuania hosted the NATO Summit in 2023 and the Netherlands are poised to host one in 2025, this event will provide a unique opportunity to combine an anniversary celebration and a focused discussion on the past, present and future of the North Atlantic Alliance.

Two years after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the war continues to cause extreme civilian harm and military casualties and has changed Ukrainian society to the core.

At this event we will look ahead to some of the main questions that will be on the agenda of the Vilnius summit. This notably includes how the alliance can rise to the challenge and credibly reinforce its defence and deterrence capabilities.

On June 28, the Russia and Eastern Europe Knowledge Alliance (REKA) organised an online event titled A new reality in Eastern Europe. We discussed this new reality with representatives of knowledge institutions, the government and media in the Netherlands. Because what are the consequences of the Russian invasion of Ukraine for both countries, Europe as a whole and the Netherlands in particular? Both the opening session and the panel discussion were livestreamed from 14:00 until 15:30.
